Greve in Chianti is situated on the Via Chiantigiana, that connects Florence with Siena passing through the evocative landscape of Chianti.
Since the Middle Age the history of the gorgeous city of Greve in Chianti is linked to its main square that has always been the market place. The square, with its characteristic triangular shape, is encircled by porticos and in the center there is the statue of Giovanni da Verrazzano. In one of the corners of the square there is the parish church dedicated to Santa Croce (19th century), with, inside, a fresco of the 14th century with the Madonna with the Child, a wooden Crocifisso of the same period and other wonderful works of art.
In the outskirts of the hamlet of Panzano in Chianti there is the Pieve di San Leolino, whose existence is attested from the 10th century but the current building, Romanesque, is dated back to the 12th century.
Among the places to visit in Greve we remember moreover the numerous castles (Uzzano, Canonica, Mugnana and Verrazzano, the village of Montefioralle and Santa Lucia a Barbiano). From Convertoie you can admire an evocative sight on the hills of Chianti.
